1. Background and Purpose
The World Schools League is dedicated to promoting global educational exchange and collaboration, enhancing students' English writing skills, and cultivating their international perspectives and cross-cultural communication abilities. This International English Writing Competition provides a platform for students worldwide to showcase their writing talents and express their thoughts, while encouraging them to explore global issues through writing and foster cultural understanding.
2. Competition Themes
The competition focuses on current global topics such as environmental protection, technology and the future, social equity, and education. Participants are required to write English essays on one of the following themes, offering their insights and proposed solutions: Climate Change and Sustainable Development, Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Humanity, Educational Equity and Opportunity, Multiculturalism and Globalization.
3. Eligibility
The competition is open to all member schools of the World Schools League as well as other interested primary and secondary students. The competition is divided into four age groups: Primary Group (ages 8-12), Junior High Group (ages 13-15), High School Group (ages 16-18), University Group (ages 19-23)
4. Entry Requirements
--Word Count: Primary Group: 300-500 words, Junior High Group: 500-800 words, High School Group: 800-1200 words
University Group: 1200-1600 words.
--Language: All submissions must be written in English and be original works. Plagiarism or AI-generated content (including ChatGPT or other AI writing tools) is strictly prohibited.
--Submission Format: Entries must be submitted in Word format. PDF, JPG, or other image formats will not be accepted. File naming convention: “Country_City_School Name_Grade_Participant Name_Age_Group”.
For example: “Canada_Toronto_Helen International School_Grade 12_David Dapeng_17_High School Group”.
5. Competition Process
Submission Deadline: January 31, 2025
Award Ceremony: Summer 2025 (during the International Principals’ Submit)
6. Judging Criteria
Entries will be judged based on the following criteria:
--Content Depth: Understanding of the topic and originality of insights.
--Logical Structure: Clarity and strength of the argument and organization of the essay.
--Language Proficiency: Accuracy of English, variety of vocabulary, and fluency of expression.
--Creativity: Innovation in thought and writing style.
7. Awards
Each category will have the following awards:
First Prize: 1 winner, Second Prize: 2 winners, Third Prize: 3 winners, Honorable Mentions: Several recipients
All winners will receive a certificate from the World Schools League. Winning essays will have the opportunity to be published on the World Schools League website, in international media outlets, and recommended to educational journals and platforms.
8. Participation and Entry Fee
Member schools can organize student participation, or students may enter individually through the World Schools League website. Participants must fill in all required personal information and submit their essays during registration. The entry fee is $20 per participant.
