The American International School - Chennai is a non-profit, coeducational day school, established in 1995 under the auspices of the US Ambassador to India and the US Consul General, Chennai. The school offers a comprehensive program from pre-school through grade 12. The American International School - Chennai is a member of the Near East South Asia Council of Overseas Schools (NESA), the Association for the Advancement of International Education (AAIE) and the European Council of International Schools and is pursuing full accreditation through MSA and ECIS.
The American International School - Chennai offers an American curriculum taught by local, international and US hired faculty. A purpose-built facility on 10 acres of land is slated for inauguration in 2003. The school is currently located on two campuses. The Russian Cultural Center houses preschool through grade 4, with an art room, playground with play equipment and an auditorium on campus. Grades 4 though 12 are in two adjacent office buildings five minutes away. These buildings accommodate classrooms, customized art room, science lab, PE room, yearbook room, music room and a library with over 12,000 books. The American International School - Chennai offers yearbook, drama, athletics, music and art as exploratory courses in middle school. College Board Advanced Placement courses are offered in High School. Intensive English language programs are provided for non-native English speaking students and French is taught as a foreign language. Specialist teachers are available for art, music, physical education, computer technology and special needs. The American International School - Chennai’s Student Council is actively involved in local community programs and the school has established and sponsored a Soccer and Basketball Leagues with local schools. The American International School - Chennai also has an annual musical production, art fair and sports exchange program with other international schools in the region.
