MIRAS School in Astana

The Miras School of Astana opened in September 1999 in a new complex of four buildings: (1) the main classrooms, gymnasium, library, and administrative building for 200 students in grades one through eleven, (2) pre-K and kindergarten for 45 students, (3) dormitory for 40 students, and (4) apartments for twelve foreign educators. Campus facilities include modern science laboratories, a greenhouse, a computer laboratory containing eighteen personal computers, a two-storey modern library and thirty personal computers, and a smaller library for elementary school group work, designated areas for visual art/design technology, music and dance, large indoor and outdoor sports facilities, an atrium at the heart of the school for assemblies and performances for visitors, a state-of-the-art kitchen and cafeteria area and special offices for a full-time doctor, nurses and psychologist.


The unique curriculum Miras School of Astana is being developed by experienced foreign and local staff, combining the Kazakhstan standard curriculum with the philosophy, methodology and framework of the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) Primary and Middle Years Programmes, following recommendations of the Council of International Schools (CIS). It is the intent of the school administration to seek authorization by IBO - it is accredited by CIS.


Miras School of Astana , (formerly known as Akmola or Tselograd), was named the capital of Kazakhstan in 1997 and is located in the northeastern part of the country. Astana is growing rapidly, and much of the city is composed of new buildings including theatres, sports complexes and restaurants.
